The Art of Consistency and the Reality of Inconsistency
The opportunities consistency gave me:
Starting a YouTube channel in College promoting homemade Whipped Shea Butter, Natural Hairstyles, and clothes from Amiclubwear (That was my spot)
Free- yes, free 99 clothing from Amazon in exchange for Reviews (2016-2018)
A potential to sell my homemade Whipped Banana Pudding at Beyu Cafe (2018)
Preparing & delivering Meal Prep for selected members of a reputable gym in RDU (2017-2019)
Event Planning (Decorating Bridal Showers & Baby Showers)
Catering to multiple audiences (Famous gospel singers, politicians, bands, and Comedians)
The Reality of Inconsistency:
Changing my recipe at the last minute led to a major setback with the decision-makers at Beyu. When they asked, “Is this the same recipe from the miniature samples?” I hesitantly replied, “No.” That inconsistency cost me the opportunity, as they gave me a firm “NO.” It was a tough lesson on the importance of consistency, especially when it comes to crucial moments.
Procrastination got the best of me when I received a free outfit to review. I remember thinking, “This can wait until tomorrow.” But tomorrow turned into a week, and by the time I finally posted the clothing review, it was too late. I missed the opportunity, and I was never offered free reviews again.
After the COVID-19 restrictions began to ease, I struggled to regain my footing in event planning and catering because I was fearful of not being consistent. Consistency is crucial in the food industry. With a newfound job opportunity in corporate America, I decided to secure a storage unit, pack away all the memories of what used to be A Seat by the Chef Inc., and never looked back.
The reality is, that the inconsistencies in my past have made me acutely aware of what I bring to the table, my creative genius, and the opportunities I’ve missed due to my negligence. These experiences have taught me to stop putting things off until tomorrow. I have a creative muscle that needs to be flexed at all times, and I refuse to let procrastination lead me back down a path of inconsistency and missed opportunities.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I strongly encourage you to regain your consistency if you have found yourself off track. However, do not undertake this journey alone. Seek out an accountability partner or identify a supportive community. While it is often said that it takes a village to raise a child, it is equally true that it takes a village to flourish as an adult.
